A little bit about us
Emmanuel Anglican Kindergarten is a wonderful kindergarten and we are proud of our extensive facilities, the learning programs, not to mention our experienced and amazing staff. The kinder has been operating for over 50 years and we provide a safe and caring environment for our kinder kids. We are located in a quiet residential street. You can read more about our extensive program or have a look around the site for more information. If you would like to see the kinder in action you are welcome to visit the kinder - simpy contact us! Below you will find some highlights from last year.

Art Show
The Art Exhibition was held at Liddiard Gallery and was put together to build on the creativity of the children. The idea was to showcase their work to parents, family and friends, while raising funds to contribute to the continuous improvement of the kindergarten facilities. The children were asked to paint what they hold dear in their hearts and the results were amazing and inspiring.

Excursion to Collingwood Children's Farm
Each of the Four Year Old groups spent one of their kinder sessions exploring and working on a farm. The children went on a tour through the farm and explored the following: milking a cow; feeding corn to the pigs; hand feeding and touching the ducks, geese and hens; feeding and patting goats, running in the horses exercise yard; holding guinea pigs; feeding the sheep and goats; walking and exploring in the sheep’s paddocks; feeding the horses and patting and watching baby calves.
All children, staff and parents had a very enjoyable and memorable experience at the farm. This event certainly enhances children’s interests of animals and understandings of where our food comes from and the specific jobs and duties a farmer undertakes on a farm.

Family Fun Day
What an amazing family fun day we had this year under the Big Top! It was great to see so many Emmanuel families enjoying the activities on offer despite the rainy day. We had face painting, biscuit icing and decorating, showbags, lucky jars, placemat making and animal masks to make. We even had an indoor jumping castle!! The children were entertained by singer Lisa Maxwell-Cripps, who brought along microphones for them to join in. The day certainly had a carnival like atmosphere and was very well attended.

Pizza and Movie Night
On a cold, crisp winter's night, in a little church hall in Abbeygate Street, an excited group of children and parents arrived with beanbags, blankets, pillows and chairs. It was warm, cosy, and a little noisy, but the hall soon fell silent as the pizza arrived and was devoured eagerly by the children. Then came the movie, an old favourite, “Toy Story”. While the children watched, wandered and munched on popcorn, it was the parents turn to scoff the huge mound of Jessie's pizza's; they were truly delicious.
As the credits rolled, a bunch of weary little children were carried off to their cars and home to the warmth of their own beds. It was a night that saw parents, children and staff join together to celebrate a true sense of community unique to our kindergarten.

Author Bronwen Scott-Branagan visits our Kinder
Our children met and listened to a real author tell their story. Bronwen who has written and llustrated several books read one story from her current book titled “The Pandanus People”. This book has a series of 5 short stories. It includes adventures of young children who live inside a Pandanus tree and highlights many life morals and values within each story. Life lessons including why it’s important to obey rules, listen to instructions and be nice to others. It also shows how wonderful it is to give someone a good surprise. Bronwen is a retired teacher who has previously worked and lived in Papua New Guinea. This was a meaningful example to our children that we can all share our stories with each other!

Baker Dave

Emmanuel Kindergarten was very lucky to have a visit from Baker Dave at Easter time last term. He brought along his own hot cross bun mixture for all the children to make their own bun. There was lots of flour thrown around the table and most ended up on the kid’s faces and clothes. The mixture smelled delicious even without cooking. The children were encouraged to mix in their own currants and sultanas, then to knead the dough, fold it and add more sultanas on top. Some made smiley faces, with lots of currants for hair and others put most of the sultanas in their mouth rather than on the hot cross bun! There were lots of questions about how he gets the cross on top, which he explained happens at his shop (Red Poppy Bakery, Poath Road, Hughesdale). Baker Dave then carefully labelled the baking tray with each child’s name and took them all back to the shop for baking. At the end of the session, each child was given their own, just baked, still warm from the oven, Hot Cross Bun. Some were eaten even before the family had made it out the door. Delicious!!!!
